Redemption is a word that most people in today's society don't understand, it is a word that has come down through history from the slave trade and basically means to buy back... Someone who for financial reasons had lost everything and sold themselves as a slave to keep them and their families from starvation or worse...

The essence of redemption then is to be bought back from slavery, the likelihood of someone being able to buy themselves back while in a position like that was almost non existent but a wealthy family member or friend could... The paid the ransom price and the person went free...

This is a type of what Jesus has done for us, we were sold into slavery to sin, we had no way to buy ourselves back but a 'rich relative' called Jesus paid the ransom price to set us free... But, there is so much more to redemption that just being set free, although that is good news, Jesus paid the price for a lot more than just freedom, as you study this course you will begin to understand what Christ purchased for us, the price he paid, the freedom and blessing he secured for us and the inheritance he has provided...
